Jeera Rice / Zeera Rice is a simple and flavorful rice preparation. Since Jeera (cumin seeds) is used to impart main flavor, it’s known as ‘Jeera Rice’. Cumin is one of the important spices in Indian household. It not only gives great flavor but also helps improve digestion.

It’s versatile and goes well with Dal Tadka (Tempered Dal), Dal Makhni or any veg/non-veg curry. These combinations are very popular in North India. Unlike pulao or biriyani, this does not involve lot of preparation or ingredients. Hence it’s easy to make and can be served in place of plain rice.

Although there are different ways to prepare the same, what I have given in this post is the most basic one. If you like, you can try adding other spices too like bay leaf, star anise, clove etc but I don’t usually add these as they overpower the flavor of cumin. But you can experiment and see if you like it that way.

You can find other rice varieties here.
