Bhadang is a lightly spicy puffed rice snack from Maharashtra state in India. It’s light, crunchy, yummy and very easy to make at the same time. The base of this recipe is puffed rice called as kurmura or murmura. Little bit of chili, sugar and raw peanuts give great taste to this snack.

You can also add red chili powder to make it fierce. However, don’t add if serving to kids. In addition to above, garlic can be added for variation. I personally don’t like to add garlic as it overpowers the taste. It’s great for evening or late night munching. We like to have it with ginger tea 🙂

Step by Step Recipe of Bhadang:

  • We need below ingredients to make Bhadang.
  • Heat little oil in a pan. Add mustard seeds and let them crackle.
  • Add curry leaves and hing.
  • Now add raw peanuts, green chilies and turmeric. Saute for couple of minutes.
  • Then add kurmura / puffed rice and mix well.
  • Season with salt and sugar. Saute for few more minutes.
  • Switch off the flame and take it out in the bowl. Let it cool completely. Store in any airtight container and serve when needed.

Ingredients
  • 1½ cup Puffed Rice
  • 2 tsp Oil
  • ¼ tsp Mustard Seeds
  • 7-8 Curry leaves
  • 2 Green Chilies
  • ¼ tsp Sugar
  • 1/8 tsp Turmeric
  • Salt per taste
How-To
  1. Heat oil in a pan. Add mustard seeds and let them crackle.

  2. Add curry leaves, hing, green chilies and turmeric.

  3. Pour in puffed rice, saute and mix well.

  4. Cook for couple of minutes and switch off the heat.

  5. Let it cool and store in airtight container. Serve as needed.

Recipe Notes
  • You can add Red chili powder if you want to make it spicy.
  • Garlic can be added as a variation.
  • If you make it in large quantity, store in an airtight container.
  • It stays good for up to a week or two! (We finish of in couple of days :P)
