Chili Paneer is a spicy Indo Chinese appetizer recipe. Fried paneer cubes are sauteed in gravy made with spicy sauces. It’s very easy to make yet delectable. It falls under starters or appetizers category. It also goes well with Veg Fried Rice or Hakka Noodles. In restaurants you will find two varieties of Chili Paneer, Dry and with Gravy.

Only veggies used in this dish are bell pepper and onion. These veggies are diced and cooked on high heat. Paneer Chili Dry is the one where gravy is just enough to coat paneer cubes whereas in Paneer Chili Gravy, the gravy is more.

Step by Step Recipe of Paneer Chili:

  • We need below ingredients to make this dish.
  • If using frozen paneer cubes, soak them in water for 10 minutes.
  • Add corn starch, all purpose flour, salt and water in a bowl. Make a batter to dip paneer cubes.
  • Heat oil in a kadhai. Dip paneer cubes in the batter and deep fry.
  • Once paneer cubes are fried, drain them on the paper towel and keep aside.
  • Now heat oil in a pan. Add diced onion, ginger garlic paste and green chili. Saute on high flame.
  • Now add diced bell pepper and saute.
  • Add tomato chili sauce, soy sauce, vinegar and mix well.
  • Mix cornstarch slurry (corn starch + water) with stir fried veggies.
  • In addition to above, add little salt and more sauces if required.
  • Add fried paneer cubes and combine everything well.
  • Serve hot as is or as a side dish to fried rice or noodles.

Ingredients
  • 1 cup Paneer cubes
  • 1/4 cup Onions Diced

  • 2 cups Oil For frying
  • 1 tbsp Oil
  • 1/2 cup Water
  • 1 tbsp Water For slurry
  • 1 tsp Soy Sauce
  • 1 tbsp Tomato Chili Sauce
  • 1 tsp Vinegar
  • Salt for taste
How-To

Tips:

  • Paneer can be shallow fried instead of deep frying.
  • Use fresh paneer as it’s usually soft. If using frozen paneer, soak in water for some time.
  • You can use yellow or red bell pepper along with or instead of Green Bell Pepper.
  • Adjust amount of sauces as per your taste.
  • It tastes best when served hot else paneer turns chewy.
