Sev Puri is a popular street snack of Mumbai, India. It is typically made with deep fried flat or round puris (deep fried flour breads) topped with boiled potatoes, onions, tomatoes, chutneys and sev.
This crispy snack is full of sweet, tangy and spicy flavors. Chutneys used for making sev puri are Coriander Chutney and Date Tamarind Chutney. It can be made with variety of toppings like fried chana dal, pomegranate seeds, corn, curd or raw mangoes (seasonal).
Here is a simple recipe to make sev puri at home :
Sev Puri is a popular Indian chaat recipe made with puris, potatoes, sev and assortment of chutneys.
- 12 Puris
- 1 Potato boiled and mashed
- 1/2 Onion finely chopped
- 1 Tomato finely chopped
- 1/2 cup Coriander Chutney
- 1/2 cup Date Tamarind Chutney
- 2-3 tsp Chaat Masala
- 1/2 cup Sev fine
- 1/4 cup Coriander leaves chopped for garnishing

Assemble puris in a plate. Add small amount of boiled potato on each puri.

Add chopped onions and tomatoes.

Now add coriander chutney and date tamarind chutney as per your taste.

Sprinkle some chaat masala and sev on top.

Garnish with coriander leaves and serve immediately.
- Puris can be store bought or made at home.
- If chutneys are made in advance, sev puri can be made anytime.
- Additional toppings like fried chana dal, pomegranate seeds, curd or raw mango pieces can be used if desired.
- Once made, make sure to serve immediately as puris tend to become soggy.
