After Vada Pav and Pav Bhaji, another popular street food of Mumbai which involves pav is “Dabeli” a.k.a Kutchi/Kacchi Dabeli (Represents Kacch region in Gujarat, India). Some people also call it Double Roti. The names come from the process of assembling the snack. Potato mixture is pressed inside of pav and pav is roasted by pressing from all the sides; hence the name.
To prepare a spicy potato mixture, we mainly need Date Tamarind chutney and Dabeli Masala. I usually use store bought masala as it is easily available in the market. Place enough mixture inside pav and roast the Pav on a griddle using butter. It tastes absolutely flavorful as you get all kinds of flavors; tangy, sweet, spicy in a single bite. Serve hot with sev, chopped onions and roasted peanuts.
