“Mommy, I am bored!” “Play with me mommy” “What should I do next?” I am sure all you moms out there are constantly bombarded with these phrases from your kids. We always try to find new activities for them to try as just toys are never enough for them. They constantly like to explore new stuff. Kids all age are super enthusiastic and energetic at all times. The important thing is to direct their energy into something constructive. What’s better than indulging them into fun craft projects? In this post, I have given few simple craft ideas and fun activities for kids.
These crafts are easy to make and will keep them busy for a good amount of time. The best part is they will learn so much while making this fun stuff; patience, detailing, structures, shapes, colors and so much more.
Important: Parent’s supervision or assistance is recommended while making these creations.
Let’s look at these 5 Simple Craft Ideas for Toddlers/Kids:
Matchbox Wall Decor
Using simple empty matchboxes we can make a beautiful wall decor for kid’s room. It’s an easy best out of waste project for kids of any age.
Materials Needed:
- Empty white matchboxes (atleast 9)
- Colors
- Foam Brush
- White Paper
- Aluminium Foil
- Scissor
- Glue
- Pins
How to Make:
- Take a matchbox and apply blue color using foam brush. Keep aside for drying. Color 5 matchboxes with blue color.
- Apply orange color to rest of the matchboxes using foam brush and keep aside for drying.
- Cut small diamond shapes out of white paper and aluminium foil.
- White diamonds should be bigger than aluminium foil diamonds.
- Once matchboxes dry, stick white diamonds at the center using glue.
- Then paste aluminium foil diamonds at the center of white diamonds.
- Now using glue, stick all the matchboxes to each other as shown below.
- Hang on the wall using pins or pierce a hole on the topmost matchbox and hang using thread.
Tips:
- You can use any colors of your choice. Do not mix too much water as it will make the matchbox wet.
- You can also use sharpie instead of colors.
- Add more matchboxes and decorate as you like.
Bird Wall Decor + Photo Display
Want to decorate a corner of your kid’s wall with something cute? Here is a beautiful and easy DIY Bird Wall decor where you can also display pictures. Let’s see how to make this.
Materials Needed:
- White Papers or Colored Papers
- Scissor
- Crayons
- Strings
- Cello tape
- Sharpie
- Ruler
- Pins / Command Hooks
- Cloth Pins (Optional)
- Pictures (Optional)
- LED String (Optional)
How to Make:
- Draw various bird shapes on paper and cut using scissor.
- Color them with different colors like blue, orange, red etc.
- If you already have color papers, cut bird shapes out of them instead.
- Add 4 pins on the wall in a line vertically. Add another set of pins few feet away. Now tie strings to the pins or hooks. Two straight and 2 crossed as shown below.
- Using cello tape, stick the birds at various locations on the wall and string together.
- Draw a bird cage of your choice on a white paper using sharpie. Then cut the shape using scissor.
- Draw chain for hanging cage using sharpie and attach to it using glue.
- Now stick the bird cage at a desired position on the wall using tape.
- Tada! Our beautiful wall decor is ready.
Tips:
- Add LED light string instead of regular if you desire.
- Hang pictures on the strings using cloth pins.
Toilet Paper Rolls Wall Decor
We can make lot out of those small toilet rolls. To make kids learn about structures, shapes here is fun and simple craft project which can also be displayed as a wall decor.
Materials Needed:
- Tissue paper rolls
- Scissor
- Glue
- White or colored Paper
- Crayons
- Pencil
- Ruler
- Pins or tape
How to Make:
- Take 3-4 toilet paper rolls.
- Cut 1/4th inch pieces out of them using scissor.
- Now take A4 size white paper and draw a rough border.
- Start sticking pieces in the flower like shape on the paper and within borders as shown below.
- Once done, darken the border and color the outer edges.
- Hang on the wall using pins or cello tape.
Tips:
- You can use your imagination and make different structures out of it.
- Use crayons to color inside of the pieces to make it colorful.
Colored Paper Petals on Canvas
This is another fun activity for kids of all ages. They will learn about shapes, colors by making different size and shapes of petals. It teaches them patience as they stick it one by one and see their creativity unfold. Let’s see how it’s made.
Materials Needed:
- Canvas or cardboard or foam board
- Colorful Papers
- White paper
- Scissor
- Glue
How to Make:
- Draw leaf or petal shapes on a paper. Use magazine paper or colored paper of your choice. Make lot of petals like this and cut using scissor Or you can draw one petal and trace others with that one.
- Draw a small circle on a white paper and cut using scissor. This will be center of the flower.
- Leaving some space from the borders, stick circle on the canvas using glue.
- Start sticking petals surrounding it.
- Voila! Your beautiful canvas art is ready to be displayed.
Paper Rosettes
Try your hands on these cute creations which look great in any shape, color and sizes. I have given procedure for certain size only but have fun exploring different sizes and colors.
Materials Needed:
- 9*12 size Colored Papers
- Glue
- Scissor
- Pencil
- Ruler
- Small circles or hearts
How to Make:
- Take one sheet of 9*12 colored paper. Using ruler mark at every 3 inches on the 9 inches side of the paper. Draw lines and divide the paper into 3 pieces of 3*12.
- Cut these pieces using scissor.
- Take one piece of 3*12 sheet and start folding in accordion style back and forth.
- Repeat the same with other pieces.
- Now stick the ends of pieces to one another making a round.
- Repeat above steps for other sheets of papers.
- Now push down from the middle and gather the center to make a rosette.
- Cut out a small piece of any shape to stick in the center.
- Our beautiful colorful rosettes are ready to hang on the wall.
