It's a medium spicy rice made with green peas. Good for lunch/dinner. Easy to make.
Wash 1 cup of basmati rice and soak in enough water for 15 mins.
Wash and keep green peas aside. If using frozen peas, soak them in hot water for some time.
Heat 1 tbsp oil in a pressure cooker on medium flame. Once hot, add whole spices (peppercorns, cloves, cinnamon and bay leaf). Saute for a minute.
Now add mustard seeds. Once they crackle, add curry leaves, green chilies and turmeric.
Drain the rice and add it in the cooker along with peas. Saute for couple of minutes.
Add sugar, salt and garam masala/goda masala. Mix everything till the rice is coated well with the spices. Try not to break the grains.
Add 2 cups of water. Cover the lid and cook for 3 whistles. The rice is now ready.
Garnish the rice with coriander leaves. Lemon juice and scrapped coconut can also be used.
It can be served with raita, cucumber slices, onions and papad.
